A Great Way to Spend a Summer Day in Michigan
There are lots of things to do and see in Michigan during the summer, like visiting Mackinac Island, camping in the National Manistee Forest, and visiting the lakes that surround us. However, have you ever thought about enjoying the lake another way by spending some of the day sailing it with a group of friends or family?
Here at GT Sailing, we’re excited to use this month’s blog to tell you about our amazing sailing opportunities and why it’s one of the best ways to spend some quality time this summer!
What a Perfect Summer Sail Can Look Like
Our most popular option is a 3-hour cruise from Lake Macatawa to Lake Michigan, which gives you that full “harbor-to-big-water” experience without needing a whole weekend. You’ll be aboard with just your group since all charters are private parties, and we can welcome up to six passengers (kids aged 6+ are welcome, too).
What to Bring so You’re Comfortable Out There
Lake Michigan weather can change personalities fast, even in June, so dressing smart makes the whole trip smoother. If you’re not sure what to pack, here’s a solid starting point:
- Sunscreen (the sun hits you twice as it also bounces off the water)
- Layered clothing for changing wind and temperature
- A hat and sunglasses for glare and sun protection
- Non-slip shoes for walking around on the boat
- Snacks and drinks
Want to Level Up to be a Sailor?
If your summer goals involve going on more than one cruise, then you may want to consider our offered sailing lessons that are taught by ASA-certified instructors and U.S. Coast Guard licensed captains. And heads up: summer dates can fill quickly, so earlier booking helps.
When you’re ready, visit our charters page for options, or reach out to us through our contact page to lock in a date and build the kind of Michigan summer day you’ll remember for a long time.
