Why Veterans Should Sail with GT Sailing
At GT Sailing, we proudly honor the dedication and sacrifice of our nation’s service members. As a thank-you to veterans, active-duty military, and reservists, we’re offering a special opportunity to experience the freedom of sailing on beautiful Lake Michigan.
In this month’s blog, we’re diving into what this special offer entails and why it shouldn’t be passed up.
What’s the ASA Veterans Sailing Education Program?
In our ASA 101 Sailing Course, veterans can learn the fundamentals of sailing while enjoying the therapeutic and empowering benefits of time on the water. Whether you’re a first-time sailor or reconnecting with the sea, we invite you to trade your ship for ours and harness the wind in your sails.
This program will be instructed by one of GT Sailing’s experienced sailors. On top of being ASA and Coast Guard licensed, they’ll show you a breathtaking tour of Lake Michigan.
Why Should Veterans Take This Program?
For many veterans, especially those dealing with physical and mental health challenges like PTSD, sailing can offer a unique and therapeutic experience. Here’s why sailing can be particularly beneficial.
- Therapeutic escape
- Mindfulness
- Teamwork and camaraderie
- Reintegration
Sailing offers a unique blend of mental, emotional, and physical benefits that can be particularly valuable for veterans as they navigate the challenges of transitioning back to civilian life and cope with the long-term effects of their service.

Offers like this don’t come around for any group of individuals. However, veterans who have served their countries, spent time away from family, and exposed themselves to dangerous situations, are a group we’d like to specially thank with this offer.
This offer is a way for us at GT Sailing to express gratitude and acknowledge the unique contributions of our veterans.
